Interviews about building and selling Growth-X

I started Growth-X in 2016, wrote the first code myself, grew it to 500+ clients like PayPal and Fiverr without raising money, and sold it in June 2025. Acquire.com and Practical Founders asked me about it since, and under each interview I wrote what it covers and the moments worth jumping to.

From Internal LinkedIn Script to a Life-Changing Acquisition

with Andrew Gazdecki, founder of Acquire.com · 10 min · July 7, 2026

Andrew Gazdecki, the founder of Acquire.com, asked me how Growth-X started and how the sale went. It began as one page of JavaScript I wrote to find users for my previous startup, I did not write the product until customers had paid for it, and we signed three deals and only the third one closed, in June 2025.

  1. 1:40To find users for my previous startup I wrote one page of JavaScript that we injected in Chrome to reach people on LinkedIn, and it brought thousands of sign-ups for free.
  2. 2:26I said I would not write one line of code for Growth-X unless there was money in the bank, and a couple of weeks later I got a screenshot of the money in the bank and flew back to start coding.
  3. 5:29Building a company and selling it are two completely different worlds, for me the sale was like having a new full-time job.
  4. 6:29We signed three deals and only the third went through, and it was not always about the business, it was about the documentation we had ready.
  5. 7:40My advice is to structure the company for a sale from day one, because the best time to sell is while you are growing and that is exactly when you have no time for a second full-time job.

Messy Financials Killed a Good LOI and Slowed a Profitable SaaS Sale

with Greg Head, host of the Practical Founders podcast · episode 216 · 62 min · October 1, 2026

Greg Head's podcast is about software companies built without big funding, and most of our hour went on the sale. Growth-X was bootstrapped and profitable and buyers were making offers, still it took me two years to sell, because I could not produce the financials a buyer needs as fast as they needed them and that cost us a good letter of intent. At the end we talked about building with AI now, and the weekly sessions I do with founders.

  1. 8:44Handing over to the buyer took about a month, because the knowledge base and the technical side were in place and the team stayed.
  2. 11:41It took me two years to sell, we were getting a lot of offers but I did not have the documents ready, and we missed deals when we could not produce the financials in time.
  3. 29:21I listed Growth-X on Acquire before OpenAI released Operator, because once I saw what they were building I thought we had maybe a couple of years if we were fast.
  4. 34:50Our books were on a cash basis, so a client paying a year up front made one month look huge and the next one small, and a buyer reading that profit and loss could not make sense of it.
  5. 40:35While I chased the documents growth slowed down, and a good letter of intent fell through because in three months I could not produce the profit and loss as fast as the buyer needed and they started losing trust.
  6. 43:30Sync your QuickBooks from day one and have somebody who knows it review it, so the financials come out with one click and you never have to stop growing to produce them.
